World Veterinary Day 2023

feel the excitement

Welcome to the World Veterinary Day 2023, Tanzania

The World Veterinary Day was established in 2000 by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) in collaboration with the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) to honour the critical role that veterinarians play in promoting animal welfare and public health. This year, TVA is joining the global veterinary community to commemorate this special day.

World Veterinary Day (WVD) is organised and Cerebrated by all Veterinary Professionals Worldwide. In Tanzania, WVD is organised by the Tanzania Veterinary Association (TVA) and at National level will be celebrated in Mwanza from April 26 to 29, 2023, and is designed to promote the invaluable contributions of Veterinarians worldwide.

The theme of WVD 2023 is” Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in the Veterinary Profession”

As part of the event, TVA has planned a series of activities that aim to improve animal health, promote animal welfare, and raise awareness about the vital role of Veterinarians. These activities include:

  • Increasing Animal Health Awareness and Motivation to Girls: TVA will provide animal health education and motivation to girls to encourage their participation in animal-related careers. This will help bridge the gender gap in the Veterinary Profession and ensure that more women are represented in the field.
  • Provision of Animal Health Services to Stakeholders: TVA will offer animal health services to all categories of animals targeting farmers, pet owners, and groups keeping animals. These services will help prevent and control diseases, promote animal welfare, and improve the health and productivity of livestock.
  • Provision of Animal Health Services to People with Special Needs: TVA will also provide animal health services to people with special needs, including the elderly and those with disabilities to minimize animal health related losses. This will help improve their income and quality of life and promote the human-animal bond.
  • Engagement of Government and other stakeholders: Government and other stakeholders will be engaged throughout the event and will also include Exhibitions by Private Sector and Visiting of the Official Guest Representing the Government to Exhibitions and Service Delivery Points to learn about the various activities and services being offered.
  • Recognition of valuable contribution of Participating Companies to the WVD: TVA will also hold a certificate awards ceremony to recognize participating companies that have demonstrated outstanding commitment and contribution to animal welfare and health.
