The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) is a research-intensive Institution located in Tengeru Arusha Tanzania. It is uniquely positioned and dedicated to the pursuit and promotion of excellence in Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (SETI). The main thrust and focus of NM-AIST is value addition to people and natural resources, to stimulate, catalyse and promote economic growth and sustainable development in Tanzania and Sub-Saharan Africa. Through the support of the Government of Tanzania, NM-AIST has been accredited by Tanzania Commission for University as one in a network of Pan-African Institutions of Science and Technology. The NM-AIST produces high quality scientists and engineers who are ready to contribute to the institution’s motto of “academia for society and industry”.

The NM – AIST Tengeru campus is located on 199 acres of land and it is easily accessible from Arusha city centre and Kilimanjaro international airport. The university has 3,285 acres of land at Karangai, 20km south of the Tengeru campus earmarked for expansion and development of innovation and technology parks.

What makes us different is that we equip researchers, scientists, and engineers with knowledge, skills and attitudes needed by universities and government institutions in Tanzania and the region. Innovation systems and business management is a core element of the postgraduate education at NM-AIST. Majority of NM-AIST alumni are academic staff of major universities and government ministries.
